Pubic Hair Removal Guide - What Is Best for Your or Your Lover?
Anyone wanting to remove pubic hair will probably focus primarily on the
two most common methods of hair removal: waxing and shaving. Pubic hair
includes hair growing in the genital area and on the genitals
themselves.
Not everyone removes pubic hair, but the practice dates back to earliest
man and woman. Art work shows ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans with
hairless pubic areas. Archaeologists have found sharpened copper and brass
artifacts which they have identified as shaving implements.
Any pubic hair removal guide will include information on laser hair
removal and electrolysis.
When laser or electrolysis ads talk about pubic hair removalthey
generally are talking about the pubic, "bush", area. A guide for hair
removal with these machines says they can have problems with the bikini line
area and are not appropriate for hair removal from the genitals themselves.
In either case, you are looking at spending some serious money.
Laser hair removal sessions last 15-30 minutes in length. Complete
removal requires 4-8 sessions. Cost in the $500/session range is common.
Electrolysis can be even more expensive, but offers more permanent hair
removal, rather than, "permanent hair reduction", as cited by the laser
industry.
If you have dark or olive skin or light hair color, laser treatments will
me less effective for you. The requirement is the hair must be noticeably
darker than the surrounding skin.
If you choose waxing as your pubic hair removal technique, here's a guide
to some of the important considerations:
If you are concerned with the inevitable pain associated with ripping
hair out by the roots, try getting an anesthetic cream or ointment from your
pharmacist. Apply the anesthetic lotion at least 30 to 60 minutes before you
plan to wax.
Be sure your hair is at least 1/4 to 1/2 inch long so the wax can grab
it. Also, do not take a shower or moisten the pubic hair immediately before
waxing since this will soften the hair. Wax adheres better to tough, dry
hair. Some time before waxing, wash the area thoroughly and dry it
completely to remove any lotions or oils which would prevent the wax from
sticking to the pubic hair.
Waxing is not appropriate for the penis or testicles.

You have your choice of having someone else performing
the waxing in a spa or salon, or of doing it yourself at home with a waxing
kit.
At home, you could also enlist the help of a lover or
very close friend. You may have to experiment a bit before you find a
position which lets you reach all the necessary areas for intimate hair
removal.
Heat the wax until it is soft but not runny. Apply a thin
layer of wax in the direction of hair growth and then place a strip of cloth
on top. When the wax cools, pull the wax off with a quick yank back against
the grain. Jerk back, not up. You will rip out the hairs by their roots.
Even with the topical anesthetic, it will hurt.
You'll probably experience some redness and puffy
swelling in the pubic area. Wear loose fitting clothing for several days to
avoid further irritation and ingrown hairs. Also to help keep those pesky
ingrown hairs from growing, it helps to exfoliate the skin 24-48 hours after
the waxing. You can use a Loofa sponge.
Shaving is the most popular and common approach to pubic
hair removal. Here's a guide to some considerations for pubic hair shaving:
You can use either an electric shaver or a wet blade
razor for pubic hair removal. Don't even think about using Grandfather's
straight razor. Whatever cutting instrument you use should have good guards
and shields between its blades and your precious skin.
Pubic area skin is delicate and sensitive. You may find a
foil style shaver is better than the rotary style. Choose a wet/dry model of
electric shaver if you want to shave in the shower.
If you decide on a wet blade razor, choose a safety razor
with as many safeguards as possible. Avoid disposable or single blade
razors.
Be sure you really want the full bare look and feel
before you commit to it. You'll need to shave daily or at a minimum every
few days to maintain it. You're making a commitment.
Some people decide to go with a close trim, instead. They
get the neat appearance without the itchiness of regrowth. But then, they
miss the smooth, silky sensuality of soft bare skin.
Do not even think about shaving your genital area if
you've been drinking or using recreational drugs or prescription drugs which
alter you mental sharpness or hand stability. A shaky hand should not be
holding a sharp razor down there while you sing choruses of, "99 bottles of
beer on the wall".
Be sure to clip the hair as short as possible BEFORE you
even BEGIN to shave. Use very sharp scissors followed by a trimmer. Failing
to clip hair short before shaving is probably the biggest mistake in pubic
hair removal.
A hot shower or bath will soften the hair and make it
easier to shave. A good shaving gel will also help. Straighten your skin
with one hand and shave with the other hand. Pubic hair is coiling and grows
in different directions so you may need to go over the same area more than
once, but do limit repeat strokes.
As with waxing, you may have to experiment quite a bit
before you find a position which allows you to reach everything you need to
shave. A mirror can help.
A willing partner or lover can help even more and turn
the shaving into a mutual grooming event you both eagerly anticipate.
Whether you currently remove your pubic hair or are just
thinking about it, you should do some research and look into the guidelines
for new pubic hair removal tools.
Some of the newest shavers are small, portable, and the
manufacturers have designed them especially for shaving pubic hair.
Manufactures have added protection to prevent any chance of cuts and they
shave sure and close with no irritation or pain. Check them out. You'll be
glad you did.
